-MISSION-

The NPPD Canine Unit is a specialized team consisting of a highly trained officer and their canine partner that work together to preserve public safety.  Police Canines far exceed a human’s natural abilities with their abilities in tracking missing persons, detecting illegal narcotics, apprehending suspects and protecting other officers.  This team is a vital component of our commitment to serve the community.

-Key Functions-

• Tracking: Clearing buildings, locating at-risk missing persons or fleeing suspects.

• Detection: Identifying the presence of narcotics or other key evidence.

• Apprehension: Gives Officer an additional less-lethal means of containing dangerous individuals.

• Community Engagement: Building positive relationships through demonstrations and public outreach.
